Why Dentists Shouldn’t Write Their Books

Patient Attraction Episode 1039

Many people believe they have a book in them, but few people actually produce one. While there are many advantages for dentists in having a book with their name on it, writing your own book is a losing proposition. I’ll tell you why after the break.

– Thanks for watching the Patient Attraction Podcast™.

– I’m Colin Receveur.

– Differentiating yourself is something you have to do if you’re going to attract more dental patients.

– Dentists who author a book set themselves apart from the competition.

– Authorship tells your prospects that you’re an expert on the particular subject area.

– That gives them reasons to like, trust, and choose you over your competition to solve their dental problems.

– Few dentists have the time, patience, inclination, or writing skill to actually produce their own books.

– They’re too busy making money by seeing patients.

– And writing a book is a time-consuming process that dentists could better use for relaxing, socializing, and family time.

– So, while there are a lot of advantages to being a published author, the disadvantages of writing your own book outweigh the advantages for most dentists.

– That said, you could hire a ghostwriter to produce your book under your name.

– You’ll want to be sure you hire someone intimately familiar with writing about the complexities of dentistry in a way your audience can understand.

– You shouldn’t have to pay for a writer’s learning curve.

– But be warned: Whatever your ghostwriter produces, you’re responsible for once it’s published.

– Make sure that it’s actually your book, and not another book on the same topic written for another dentist.

– That happens more often than you might think.

– SmartBox offers dedicated, expert ghostwriting services for dentists.
